About the Center

Manaltheeram is the sister property of Somatheeram Ayurveda Village, the world’s first resort dedicated exclusively to authentic Ayurvedic healing. The group was founded by entrepreneur Mr Baby Mathew, who brought his pioneering vision of an “Ayurveda Hospital in a Resort Ambience” to Kerala.

That idea has since grown into a group of five deluxe Ayurveda resorts across the state, along with a fleet of houseboats on Kerala’s backwaters, with Manaltheeram carrying the philosophy forward in its own more relaxed setting.

The resort is built as a cluster of rustic-style fishermen’s cottages, offering guests the atmosphere of traditional village life rather than that of a conventional wellness hotel. An NABH-certified resort, Manaltheeram has also been awarded the National Tourism Award for Best Ayurvedic Wellness Centre in 2017–18 and 2022 and has been recognised by the Government of India as one of India’s Best Ayurveda Resorts.

Alongside Ayurvedic treatments, Manaltheeram is also known for its regular yoga retreat programmes. The resort has 12 experienced Ayurvedic doctors and 60 trained therapists working across 22 treatment rooms, supported by an on-site Medicine Manufacturing Unit, Herbal Garden and Ayurveda Academy.

Guests can also experience Kerala’s cultural traditions through performances such as Kathakali and demonstrations of Kalaripayattu, the state’s ancient martial art. Guests staying for 21 nights or more can also experience a houseboat tour.

Food

Food is treated as an integral part of treatment at Manaltheeram rather than as a separate offering. In Ayurveda, the right diet is considered essential to maintaining health, complementing treatment and supporting the body throughout the healing process.

Meals are planned around the three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, with doctors recommending suitable foods and meal timings for each guest according to their individual constitution and treatment programme.

True to classical Ayurvedic dietary principles, meals incorporate all six rasas: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent and pungent. Herbs and spices are also incorporated for their traditional therapeutic properties, making food an important part of the overall Ayurvedic programme rather than simply nourishment during the stay.

Ayurveda packages at Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village are all-inclusive programmes that bring together accommodation, Ayurvedic treatments, diet, yoga and ongoing medical supervision throughout the stay.

Every guest begins with an assessment by an in-house Ayurvedic doctor to understand their individual constitution and the state of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Based on this consultation, guests receive a personalised programme that may include daily Ayurvedic therapies and massages, Panchakarma procedures where prescribed, herbal medicines where required, a dosha-based Ayurvedic diet, daily yoga, meditation and continuous consultations to monitor progress throughout the programme.

Guests staying 7 nights or more receive complimentary airport transfers from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Stays of 14 nights or more include a backwaters excursion, subject to the conditions of the selected programme.

Health Insurance

As an NABH-certified Ayurveda hospital, insurance claims can be reimbursed for eligible ailment management programmes. Cashless insurance is not available at the resort, so guests will need to pay upfront and subsequently apply to their insurance provider for reimbursement.

Eligibility for reimbursement depends on the guest’s individual insurance policy and the terms and conditions of their insurer.
