The Ayurveda panchakarma program built on a two-step process: a preparatory pre-treatment phase followed by the main purification treatment. It's designed to remove deep-seated toxins, purify the whole body and restore proper balance of the three doshas, namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha, making it Somatheeram's most comprehensive detox program. Recommended minimum duration is 15 to 22 days for full and lasting effect, with roughly 90 to 120 minutes of daily treatment.
In the pre-treatment phase, the body is acclimatised for purification through two core methods:
- Snehana Karma (Oil Therapy): Therapy using oil and ghee preparations
- Swedana Karma (Sudation Therapy): Inducing sweating through Njavarakizhi, Pizhichil, Elakizhi and steam baths
The process for the treatment then includes:
- Body massages
- Snehapanam, Nasyam
- Virachanam (medicated purgative)
- Snehavasthi, Dhara
- Pizhichil
- Njavarakizhi
- Karnapooranam
- Tharpanam
- Sirovasthi
- Steam bath
