About the Center
Marari Beach Resort is a seaside Ayurveda Retreat rooted in nature, culture and responsible travel. A CGH Earth property, the retreat is inspired by the character of the traditional fishing villages of the Kerala coast. Rather than creating a conventional beach resort, CGH Earth developed Marari around a strong sense of place. The cottages, pathways, gardens and experiences reflect the rhythms of the surrounding village and its close relationship with the sea. A nearby fishing community continues to bring in its daily catch, while guests can experience village life, local crafts and the coastal environment.
One of the resort's defining features is its sense of place. The thatched cottages are inspired by traditional fisherfolk dwellings, while the open spaces, coconut groves, ponds and native landscaping create the feeling of a village rather than a conventional hotel. The architecture uses local materials and a distinctly Kerala coastal aesthetic, with open-to-sky bathrooms and generous private outdoor spaces that bring guests closer to nature.
The resort's philosophy is closely linked to the story of CGH Earth and Jose Dominic, whose approach helped shape responsible tourism in Kerala. Dominic joined his father's family hotel business in Kochi in 1978 and later transformed the business through a philosophy centred on environmental sensitivity, local community participation and respect for local culture. He demonstrated that luxury could be created by preserving rather than replacing a destination's natural and cultural character.
That philosophy is particularly evident at Marari. The resort works closely with the surrounding community, including local women who help re-thatch the cottages and produce traditional coir and handwoven products. A four-acre organic farm is maintained with the help of local farmers, while a medicinal herb garden supplies ingredients used in the preparation of Ayurvedic oils and therapies. The property has also introduced measures such as recycling wastewater, producing biogas from kitchen waste and reducing the use of plastic drinking-water bottles.
Nature is an integral part of the experience. The resort has developed a butterfly garden, organic gardens and diverse green spaces, while activities such as nature interpretation, bird watching, fish feeding and village experiences encourage guests to engage with the ecosystem rather than simply observe it. Marari's responsible tourism practices have received recognition through several environmental and tourism awards over the years.
Food
Food at Marari is an important part of the resort's connection with its coastal setting. Fresh seafood, coconut, traditional spices, vegetables, fruits and herbs form the foundation of its cuisine, with much of the produce sourced from the resort's own organic gardens. The culinary experience draws strongly from Kerala's coastal traditions while also offering Indian and international choices.
Chakara Restaurant is the main dining venue, serving Kerala coastal cuisine alongside North Indian and Continental dishes. The Beach Grill focuses on seafood, making use of the fresh catch of the day and traditional coastal flavours.
One of the resort's signature experiences is the Farm Kitchen, where guests can pick fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs from the organic garden and cook with the chef in a traditional setting. Cooking demonstrations and interactive culinary experiences offer further opportunities to discover Kerala's food traditions. For Ayurveda guests, vegetarian Ayurvedic food is available as part of the rejuvenation programme, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
