Coconut Lagoon occupies a sheltered setting on Vembanad Lake, one of India's largest inland lakes and an important wetland ecosystem. Reaching the property by boat is part of the experience, taking guests across the lake past coconut palms, village homes and waterways before arriving at the resort. This experience is rooted in the culture and landscape of Kuttanad, with the entire stay designed to introduce guests to everyday life around the backwaters.

Coconut Lagoon is part of CGH Earth, a family-owned hospitality group whose origins date to 1954, when the family's first property, Casino Hotel, opened on Willingdon Island in Kochi.
