About Dheemahi Ayurvedic Village
Surrounded by lush greenery and the peaceful natural landscape of Kumarakom, Dheemahi Ayurvedic Village provides an ideal setting for guests seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, detoxification and holistic well-being.
The retreat reflects the simplicity and warmth of Kerala village life, giving guests an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with themselves and their surroundings. Traditional Kerala cuisine, yoga, meditation, cycling, backwater excursions, nature walks and interactions with the local environment form part of the wider experience, allowing guests to discover the culture and natural beauty of Kumarakom alongside their Ayurvedic journey.
This calm and natural environment complements the healing process. Every wellness journey begins with a personalized consultation to understand the guest’s body constitution, health concerns and wellness goals. Based on this assessment, experienced Ayurvedic doctors develop an individualized programme incorporating appropriate therapies, Ayurvedic nutrition, yoga and lifestyle recommendations.
Dheemahi Ayurveda carries forward a rich family legacy of traditional Ayurvedic practice spanning generations. The centre was co-founded by Dr. Jayakrishnan and Dr. Namitha, with the guidance and support of Dr. Girish and Dr. Padmadevi, continuing the tradition of Ayurvedic physicians establishing their own centres after completing formal education and training under the previous generation of doctors.
The family’s Ayurvedic lineage traces back to Ayyapan Pillai Vaidyan, who practised Ayurveda through the traditional Kalari system, a learning environment where young Ayurvedic physicians were trained.
This heritage continued through SNV Vaidyashala, established in 1921 by the late V.K. Madhavan Pillai Vaidyan, followed by Balakrishna Pharmacy, established in 1960 by the late Dr. V.R. Balakrishnan Nair, which is now managed by Dr. Girish.
Dr. Girish and Dr. Padmadevi later established Athreya Ayurveda in 1996, which is now carried forward by the next generation of physicians. Dheemahi represents the continuation of this heritage, bringing generations of traditional Ayurvedic knowledge together with personalized care for modern wellness seekers.
Today, Dheemahi Ayurvedic Village combines classical Ayurveda, individualized treatments, Ayurvedic nutrition, yoga, meditation and the restorative environment of Kerala’s backwaters, offering guests an immersive healing journey rooted in traditional Ayurvedic practice and the natural character of Kumarakom.
