About the Center

Sitaram Mountain Retreat is the hill-station retreat of Sitaram Ayurveda Pharmacy, one of Kerala's respected Ayurveda institutions. Founded by Vaidyan K. Parameswaran Mooss, a contemporary of Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier, the family traces its roots back over 100 years and continues to be managed by Ayurvedic practitioners dedicated to preserving Kerala's classical healing traditions.

Nestled in the Western Ghats, the retreat is surrounded by lush spice plantations, tea gardens and forested hillsides. Rather than serving simply as a scenic backdrop, nature forms an integral part of the experience, creating a quiet environment for Ayurvedic treatment, yoga, meditation and recovery.

The retreat maintains an intimate and personalized approach, allowing guests to receive individual attention from doctors, therapists and wellness experts. Its philosophy centres on treating the individual rather than the illness. Every wellness journey begins with a detailed consultation, during which Ayurvedic physicians assess the guest's constitution, health history and lifestyle before developing a customized treatment programme.

Food

Sitaram's food philosophy is rooted in the Ayurvedic idea that the right food can reduce the need for medicine. The retreat's in-house restaurant, Trikaya, follows a slow-food vegetarian approach using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Meals contain no artificial additives, refined sugar or flour, preservatives, alcohol, meat or processed foods and are designed to complement each guest's treatment programme.

Meals follow Ayurveda's six-taste system of sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent, and are personalized according to each guest's treatment plan. Gluten-free, lactose-free and diabetic dietary requirements can also be accommodated.

Trikaya encourages mindful eating, with guests invited to set aside screens and connect with their food and the surrounding forest. Buffets are deliberately avoided as part of the retreat's approach to conscious eating. Culinary experiences are also available, allowing guests to learn nutritious recipes and carry healthier food practices beyond their stay.

As an NABH-registered Ayurveda hospital, medical reimbursement through various health insurance providers may be available for Ayurvedic medical treatments undertaken at Sitaram Mountain Retreat. Guests should confirm eligibility and coverage directly with their insurer before booking.

Cashless insurance is not available at the retreat, so guests will need to make payment upfront and subsequently apply to their insurer for reimbursement.
