Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the complete or partial loss of motor control due to injury to the cerebellum(mid brain). After few years of birth, since there is lack of movement due to lack of motor control, the muscles start tightening and some become too loose. There is overall problems with the muscle tone. Since the child is moving less , also the sensory input to the brain is not enough and child also can start developing the sensory issue. Due to lack of movement , even the vestibular system is affected negatively as there is not enough movement of head to train the vestibular system in the brain. Also lack of movement causes a very weak digestive system and hence a weak immune system and hence frequent sicknesses. Lungs are not fully developed as there is no exercise for lungs. A well child exercises lungs by running jumping etc which causes heavy breathing, which increases the size and capacity of lungs and it also increases the size and contraction/expansion of chest. A CP child then ends up with a weak immune system , under-developed lungs, small and stiff chest, weak immune system, over all lack of oxygen(Chronic Hypoxia), muscle tone problems, lack of balance, etc. Now lack of oxygen is a big deal. It in turn, it causes all kinds of problems, from dis-function of live and kidneys and overall lack of energy production in the body. Lack of oxygen can also cause seizures. Due to lack of movement, and lack of intellect development caused by lack of movement, most of the CP children are not given a good education program.
