The De-toxification Journey The Panchakarma treatment involves three stages: Purva Karma (pre-treatment), Pradhana Karma (main-treatment) and Paschat Karma (post-treatment). Your detoxification journey will begin with a thorough consultation with one of our expert Ayurvedic doctors who will tailor the package to your body condition and nature. Purva Karma (Pre-Treatment) Before the actual purgation begins, there is a need to prepare the body with prescribed methods to encourage it to let go off the toxins. Purvakarma comprises two types of preparatory treatments: Snehana (internal and external oleation with natural herbal oils) and Swedana (sudation or steam therapy). During these treatments, the excess doshas are gradually encouraged to move from the limbs to the digestive tract from which they can be eliminated. Snehana or Sneha Panam Duration: Varies This is administration of Medicated Ghee and mainly done as preparation for Panchakarma. The selected ghee is given according to the digestive power of the patient. The quantity is increased gradually on a daily basis and is administered for a maximum of 7 days to make the total system oleated internally. Snehapanam can be used as a curative method and nourishing treatment also. Swedana or Herbal Steam Bath Duration: Varies This treatment begins with warm herbal oil being gently applied to your whole body. Next you’ll be asked to sit inside a steam chamber - just your head will remain outside. The prescribed herbal steam encourages your body to perspire profusely and release impurities from the skin thereby pacifying the three Doshas. This is a great therapy for helping soothe painful, aching muscles and joints and for giving the skin a special glow. Pradhana Karma (Main Treatment) This main phase includes the administration of the fivefold Ayurvedic detoxification procedures. The five Panchakarma treatments deeply purify the body and restore it to perfect harmony. Vasthi Snehavasthi (Herbal Oil Enema); Duration: Varies This is an oil enema, and is very useful in removing the accumulated Malas (toxins) and cleansing the colon. It is also the main therapy for all vatha disorders such as constipation, neurological ailments, paralysis, flatulence, lower backache, gout and rheumatism. As the main site of the vatha Dosha is the colon, the vasthi is used to help restore balance. It nourishes and rebuilds the dhatus (body tissues) and strengthens the body's immune system. Kashayavasthi (Herbal Decoction Enema); Duration: Varies This therapy is normally administered after a course of Sneha Vasthi. This is a cleansing enema where a combination of honey, oil, herbal paste, herbal decoction, etc. is administered as per the patient's requirement and condition. This therapy eliminates vatha, clears blockages in the body channels or digestive systems and nourishes the body tissues. It is used to treat disorders such as arthritis, constipation, neurological ailments, paralysis, flatulence, lower backache, gout and rheumatism. Vamana (Therapeutic Emesis or Vomiting) Duration: Varies Vamana or therapeutic emesis is induced in the body to eliminate the excess mucus caused by the Kapha dosha. Often, this therapy also releases repressed emotions that have been held in the Kapha areas of the lungs and stomach along with the accumulated Dosha. It is highly effective in treating respiratory disorders, depression, insomnia etc. Virechana (Purgation Therapy) Duration: Varies Virechana refers to the purgation of toxins from the intestines and pitha zones, performed by administering Virechak Aushdhi (purgative medicine or purgative laxatives) in milk or warm water preparation. This therapy is extremely beneficial in eliminating disorders such as dermatitis, chronic fever, heartburn, jaundice, bile related problems such as rashes, skin inflammation, acne, chronic attacks of fever, biliary vomiting, and nausea Rakthamoksham (Blood-letting treatment) Impure blood is drained out of the body through various ways such as needle-pricking, venesection, leeching, etc. If you are feeling slightly alarmed by the thought of this treatment, please be assured that it is a safe, painless and effective and performed by experts Nasyam Duration: Varies Ayurveda describes the nose as the doorway to the brain and the passageway for life force to enter the body. Nasyam is a therapeutic treatment for the nose, throat, sinuses and head. Herbal extracts medicated oils or powders are instilled in accurate dozes into the nostrils to expel blockages. A pre and post preparation is required in this treatment. Nasyam is very effective in cleansing & strengthening the nasal path way, sinuses & very effective in curing different types of headache. It is beneficial for conditions such as sinus congestion, sinusitis, allergies, headaches, migraine, epilepsy, tinnitus, hearing loss, impaired vision and lack of concentration or memory loss. Paschata Karma (Post-Treatment) The Paschatkarma is a post therapy treatment in which your body is encouraged to remain in a state of detoxification. This is achieved by following a list of dos and don’ts (Pathya-Apathya) as advised, according to your dosha and nature, by the Ayurvedic doctor. The list will include diet and lifestyle recommendations which you will need to follow to fully benefit from the detoxification therapy.
