A complete Ayurveda cleansing program takes anywhere between 15 days of preparing your system to 45 days of actual cleansing. Ayurveda recommends paying special attention to your diet during these two phases to avoid overtaxing your digestion and to enable purification. It is not recommended in Ayurveda to fast or to be on entirely liquid diets because that may cause one’s Agni (digestive fire) to become imbalanced. Reasons for why these food items must be avoided: One of the ways through which toxins enter the body is food. Virechana concentrates on removing the toxins from body and making it healthy so that the person has good immunity power with less discomfort. If diet contains chicken and meat, egg, spicy, soya sauce, vinegar, chocolates, bakery products, noodles and fried food are consumed then it makes the digestion difficult and reduces metabolism leading to accumulation of the toxins. This may lead to adverse effect making the body uncomfortable and feel heavier. Milk, milk products and fruits need to be avoided because they are difficult to digest, and body will not be able to absorb the nutrients. Therefore, it is imperative to follow the diet prescribed by the doctor so that there is no complication and one can achieve maximum potential from this treatment.
